Instagram use and bodily self-concept of adolescent girls
MAREŠOVÁ, Kateřina
This bachelor thesis focuses on the relationship between the use of Instagram and the physical self-concept of adolescent girls. The theoretical part consists of three chapters. In the first chapter adolescence and its developmental aspects are briefly summarized, the second chapter deals with self-concept and its development in adolescence, followed by a subchapter concerning physical self-concept. At the end of the theoretical work, social networks, Instagram and their influence on physical self-concept are introduced. In the practical part, the bachelor's thesis aims to find the relationship between the use of Instagram and the physical self-concept of adolescent girls. The research group consists of 252 respondents aged 15-20 years who own an Instagram account. The sample was collected via social networks using the improbable selection method. The relationship of the respondents to their own body was measured using the Multidimensional Body-Self Relations Questionnaire, which measures attitudes towards their own body, and the Basic Olomouc Body Rating, which measures satisfaction with their own appearance using a pictorial scale of characters. The level of use of Instagram was detected using a questionnaire created for the purposes of the bachelor's thesis. A statistically significant difference was demonstrated in the hypothesis concerning girls who follow fitness accounts and girls who do not follow them. Girls who do not follow fitness accounts showed higher dissatisfaction with their body, which was measured by the BOBR questionnaire, than girls who do follow these accounts.
The health aspects of the body image
KRATOCHVÍL, Jakub
Body image and health are two closely related concepts that affect the quality of our lives. The aim of this diploma thesis was to gather current knowledge about the interconnectedness of the above-mentioned concepts and to evaluate some risk areas of the promoted body image patterns in relation to the possibilities of damage or impairment of health. In the theoretical part of the work, a research was created, which was processed on the basis of Czech and foreign literature. At the same time, this section identified the health risks associated with the pursuit of the current, society-accepted bodily ideal. The empirical part of the work contains own research, the aim of which was to assess the level of subjectively perceived satisfaction with them in the adult population of men and women in relation to BMI categories. The research took place in April 2020 and involved a total of 80 adults, including 40 men and 40 women. The revised Life Satisfaction Questionnaire, specifically the Health area excluded from it, served as a tool for assessing satisfaction with the level of health. For the purpose of evaluating satisfaction with body image, an evaluation scale was used. The results of the research revealed that men evaluate their health and body image better than women, and that individuals with a BMI in normal show better results in both areas than individuals suffering from overweight or obesity. The diploma thesis can serve as a material to spread awareness about the risks of eating disorders.
The body image - the concepts and realities of PF students
MORAVCOVÁ, Lucie
The topic of this thesis is Body image - concepts and realities of students of the Faculty of Education. The theoretical part deals with the definition of the concept of body image, the mental component of body image, historical development of the beauty ideal of the human body and body image, determinants of body appearance, quality of life in connection with the body and body measurement options. The practical part was realized by using a quantitative questionnaire and a self-assessment visual scale BOBR. The research group consists of students of the Faculty of Education of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice. The aim is to find out if the concepts and realities in the field of body image differ among students of Faculty of Education. . Another aim is to find out what figure of the opposite sex do Faculty of Education students considered as ideal. The last aim is to find out if this ideal differs from the real appearance of the respondent's partners (if any).
The Influence of regular physical activity on self concept of women
Polášková, Michaela ; Bahbouh, Radvan (advisor) ; Hrachovinová, Tamara (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to study physical self-evaluation and generalized self-efficacy within the self-concept of women. This is put in context with their regular physical exercise. a number of other variables are being examined to add the complexity to the topic of self-concept and sports. Among them there are Body Mass Index (BMI), subjective self- confidence, level of professional involvement in particular sport activity and whether the woman has children. The theoretical part of this work looks at the self-concept paradigm focusing on the physical self-concept of women and self-efficacy in sports. Furthermore it examines how the physical exercise is related to the mind. In the empirical part of the thesis physical self-evaluation of women was researched in context with the type of exercise they had been doing. This was examined in quantitative analysis of a group of 100 women who did sports. The research includes also relationship among physical self- evaluation, generalized self-efficacy and other variables. The research method used was the Physical Self-Perception Profile (PSPP) and Generalized Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES). The results of the research are: There is no statistically relevant difference in physical self- evaluation of women based on the type of exercise they do regularly....
Health education in elementary school
Hájková, Lucie ; Fialová, Ludmila (advisor) ; Tilinger, Pavel (referee)
Title: Health education in elementary school Objectives: The aim of this thesis was to create an educational manual for health education and its verification. Methods: In our thesis we used quantitative and qualitative methods of analysis and the method of comparison. We used a questionnaire as the quantitative method and for the qualitative method we interviewed selected students. We apllied the method of comparison in the evaluation of student's knowledge in pre and post questionnaires and in comparing the knowledge of 9th and 7th graders. Results: We discovered that 7th graders improved their knowledge and the greatest improvement was reached in the topics of self-conception and physical self- conception. Also we found that the knowledge of 7th graders are better than the knowledge of 9th graders. Keywords: body care, nutrition, self-conception and physical self-conception, physical activity.
The influence of print media and school on adolescent girls self-concept
Zineckerová, Lenka ; Koťa, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Vincejová, Eva (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the influence of teenage girl magazines and school on the self-concept of adolescent girls. Theoretical part aims to bring comprehensive review of current scientific research on the topic of development of self-identity during adolescence where self-concept is created with strong emphasis on physical appearance. The thesis subsequently examine possible disorders that can arise from erroneous self-concept. The impact of printed media and especially girl magazines, on components of adolescent girl's self-concept is considered. School and educational system as another important contributor in development of self-concept is reflected in my thesis as well. Experimental aims to explore which areas of self-concept and girls behavior are influenced by girl magazines most significantly and whether educational system takes girl magazines into consideration during educational process. In order to collect necessary data the experiment was concluded with sixty respondents, which were instructed to valuate several body parts before and after the exposition to the picture from girl magazine capturing fashion ideal of woman body. Six semi structured interviews with girls were performed in order to explore girl's attitude towards mentioned magazines. Analysis of results proves...
Motivation in sport: Relationship to global self-esteem and physical self-perception
Harbichová, Ivana ; Slepička, Pavel (advisor) ; Štochl, Jan (referee) ; Pavelková, Isabella (referee)
The main objective of this thesis is to verify the relationship of the contextually specific motivation in sport to a global self-esteem and possible mediation effects of the physical self-perceptions in this relationship. To achieve this objective six individual studies were conducted. First, we focused on the translation of diagnostic instruments: the Sport Motivation Scale (SMS; Pelletier et al., 1995) and the Social Physique Anxiety Scale (SPAS; Hart, Leary, Rejeski, 1989) into the Czech language. Next, the validity and reliability of the scores obtained by Czech versions of the instruments were examined. Based on the results of the structural equation modeling and using a known-difference evidence validity approach we concluded that both translated instruments may be useful as a valid and reliable diagnostic tools for measuring different kinds of motivation in sport (SMS) and negative physical self-perception (social physical anxiety - SPAS). Using structural equation modeling, we also concluded that different types of motivation in sport (which vary in degree of relative autonomy of the subject) affect specific self-esteem associated with the body, as well as the evaluation of one's self at the global level. Relationship of the sport motivation and the global self-esteem was largely mediated...
Computerized Adaptive Testing In Kinanthropology: Monte Carlo Simulations Using The Physical Self Description Questionnaire
Komarc, Martin ; Štochl, Jan (advisor) ; Martinková, Patrícia (referee) ; Scheier, Lawrence (referee)
This thesis aims to introduce the use of computerized adaptive testing (CAT) - a novel and ever increasingly used method of a test administration - applied to the field of Kinanthropology. By adapting a test to an individual respondent's latent trait level, computerized adaptive testing offers numerous theoretical and methodological improvements that can significantly advance testing procedures. In the first part of the thesis, the theoretical and conceptual basis of CAT, as well as a brief overview of its historical origins and basic general principles are presented. The discussion necessarily includes the description of Item Response Theory (IRT) to some extent, since IRT is almost exclusively used as the mathematical model in today's CAT applications. Practical application of CAT is then evaluated using Monte-Carlo simulations involving adaptive administration of the Physical Self-Description Questionnaire (PSDQ) (Marsh, Richards, Johnson, Roche, & Tremayne, 1994) - an instrument widely used to assess physical self-concept in the field of sport and exercise psychology. The Monte Carlo simulation of the PSDQ adaptive administration utilized a real item pool (N = 70) calibrated with a Graded Response Model (GRM, see Samejima, 1969, 1997). The responses to test items were generated based on item...
